The City of Boston’s Public Facilities Department has chosen a design team led by Sasaki Architects, based in Watertown, Massachusetts. Sasaki Architects, an internationally known design firm in its own right, has engaged another world-class design firm Mecanoo, based in the Netherlands, to help create the next great public building in Boston, the Dudley Square Municipal Office Facility.
The Sasaki/Mecanoo team prevailed in a selection process that began with 19 teams with designers from North America and Europe responding to a request for qualifications earlier in 2011.
The design team is studying the site, has visited a number of community stakeholders and recently participated in a listening session with Roxbury community members and the Dudley Vision Advisory Task Force to help gain insight into the neighborhood’s goals and aspirations for the development.
The team is also studying the existing Ferdinand’s Building structure and other area restoration projects to gain insight into how the building could be economically stabilized, restored and incorporated into a larger, high-performing public building.
