As part of Mayor Walsh’s initiative to expand opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation to all areas of the City of Boston, the City has released today a Request for Interest, Ideas, and Innovation for the Roxbury Innovation Center.  This RFI is intended to gauge interest from potential operators of the Center, and gain insights from market participants on potential concepts that could inform an upcoming Request for Proposals to lease and operate the Roxbury Innovation Center in the City’s next great public building, the Dudley Sq. The meeting commenced with a presentation of the Dudley Sq. District-wide Parking Study (link to a copy of parking study here) by Sean Manning, Sr. Consultant at VHB.

Highlights of the presentation included:

• Review of the supply of on-street and off-street spaces,
• analysis of day-time parking occupancy,
• projection of new supply of spaces coming on-line in the near future,
• proposed renewed enforcement, and
• recommendations for a future parking plan.

The meeting began with a presentation from the Dudley Municipal Center Owner’s Project Manager, PMA Consultants. Project Managers Jason Lawson, Chad Crittenden and Ken L’Ecuyer were in attendance, and Jason Lawson reviewed slides showing current construction progress on the facility (link here).  The slide presentation contained a number of interesting images of the building interior and exterior.

Highlights of the presentation:

Substantial Completion is still targeted for December 2014, with Boston Public Schools Occupancy in 2015.

The workforce development efforts continue with about 70% completion, the project is exceeding minority workforce targets (target of 25%, actual 48%); and achieving close to target levels for participation categories of female (target 10%, actual ~7%), and Boston Resident (target 50%, actual ~40%) participation.
